Log burner

My Wood burner Stove

I am a heating engineer by trade so I spent about 3 months researching into wood burner stoves before I eventually decided on one for my own house.

Which log burner to buy?

I may not of purchased a top quality log burner, but I certainly picked one which did not cost the earth, it heats the room up, looks nice and have had no problems with it after 3 years.

Morso make a top quality Wood burner stove and I would of liked one of these, but my budget would not stretch that far. A Morso log burner may last 20 years or more, but I only really need one to last for 10 years maximum as my wife will of decided that the stove will of long gone out of fashion by then.

I eventually purchased a Wood burner called a Gabriel. I paid £295.00 for this stove 3 years ago. An equivalent Morso log burner would of cost around £700. I installed the log burner myself which was very easy to do. It comes with a very comprehensive instruction manual that is better than ones I have seen for more expensive Morso log burners.

Gabriel Wood Burner Stove

The Gabriel wood burner that I purchased is a 5-8kw multi fuel model with air wash clean glass. It is 80% efficient when running on wood. This stove is manufactured from virgin iron ore so no recycled metal is used in this stove and it also came with a 5 year warranty.

Flue Liners For Log Burners

When purchasing your flue liner, make sure you buy the correct one as there are different flue liners for different applications i.e.. gas or oil.

When connecting your log burner to your chimney you will also need to seal the rest of the chimney opening. I did this with a metal plate I made then fitted it into place with some metal brackets and sealed around the flue with fire cement. All this is easily removable so I can sweep the chimney when required. I will add some photos of my Wood burner installation on here when i get time, so check back soon.

My conclusion is that Morso stoves are great quality and look good, but you can spend a lot less and still get a great log burner.
